Abstract
[b]BACKGROUND: [/b]The disease burden contributed by health care associated infections (HCAI) is not negligible. The occurrence of HCAI can be substantially reduced by a simple procedure like hand washing. [b]OBJECTIVE: [/b]To study the knowledge of house – surgeons of government general hospital, Vijayawada regarding hand washing. [b]METHODOLOGY:[/b] [b]Study Design[/b]: cross sectional, descriptive. [b]Study Setting: [/b]Government general hospital, Vijayawada. [b]Sample Size: [/b]all housesurgeons (100). [b]Sampling unit:[/b] house-surgeon. [b]Study Period[/b]: January 1st, 2014 to Feb 1st 2014. [b]Statistical Analysis[/b]: Percentages. A Prestructured questionnaire based upon NACO (National AIDS Control Organization) guidelines is designed and administered to the house surgeons of Government general hospital, Vijayawada and data is collected. [b]CONCLUSION: [/b]Only 2 out 100 house surgeons are aware of correct procedure of hand washing
