Ban Xia Lian Qiao Tang

Abstract

Composition Jiang Ban Xia (Rhizome Pinelliae Fermentata) 30g, Lian Qiao (Fructus Forsythiae) 30g Directions The herbs are decocted with 500ml water and concentrated to 200ml. The patients between the ages of five and twelve take one-third-dose, while twelve years old and over take the whole dose. Ban Xia Lian Qiao Tang (BXLQT) is taken twice daily, half an hour after meals while the decoction is warm. BXLQT also can be made as granules, which are taken with the same method. Mild cases take three days, while serious cases take seven days to recover sore throat and throat discomfort. Indications This prescription is mainly applied to treat all kinds of sore throat and throat discomfort, which are named sore throat, globus hysteriocus and sore throat dumb in Traditional Chines Medicine, and pharyngitis in Western Medicine. Herbs can be added according to the differentiation of diseases and syndrome for the external and internal diseases. Contraindications The patients who are less than 5 years old are not recommended to take the BXLQT. Women who want to conceive or are pregnant, especially during the first trimester of pregnancy, should not take the BXLQT.
