BASIC PRINCIPLES OF THE GROWTH POLE STRATEGIES

Abstract
The paper is devoted to the study of the principles of growth poles strategy in modern conditions. The basics and evolution of the concept of growth poles are considered. A retrospective review of the implementation of the growth poles strategy in the world has been carried out. The features that are inherent to all strategies of this type are selected. The most important among them are: the inevitable modification of the overall spatial structure of employment and population in the region; spatial discrimination or selective approach to locations; orientation on a limited number of poles, the quantity of which varies depending on the goals; stimulating of the employment and population growth in selected locations in the region. A model for calculating the benefits from the implementation of the strategy is given depending on the size of the planned poles, their number and distancing among themselves, as well as on the available program budget.
