Abstract

The European policy of the tertiary education defines the main tasks of the university as the preparatory measures for the participation in the knowledge society through creating and disseminating knowledge, developing research and teaching in collaboration with the widely understood social and economical environments of the higher education institution. The modern academic library defined as a learning and resource centre or, in its higher form as a learning and research centre, definitely supports the above defined academic community. In the holistic academic model, the library is an integrated system – open for the needs and wants of the community – of the hybrid library which skillfully unites the concept of the traditional library and the idea of the modern digital space into one common context. The adaptation of the library to the changes in the academic environment relies on generating the awareness of its users and their needs and modifying the offer of the services and the mode of operation. The design of the new building takes into consideration all the assumptions and underlying principles of the modern librarianship referring to the construction, space organization functional arrangements, as well as the tasks and mission of the library in the academic community, The library of the University of Zielona Góra is a new space, a rich interactive academic high-tech environment with an effective integration of the library services. The way of shaping the space, the organization of the collections and services aim at the implementation of the popular idea of open library – without spatial and organizational barriers, with open access to the collections and services. Free access to knowledge, modern technology applications and life-long learning make the indispensable elements of modern and developing society. Europejska polityka szkolnictwa wyższego określa główne zadania uniwersytetów, jako przygotowania do udziału w społeczeństwie wiedzy i jego rozwoju poprzez tworzenie i rozpowszechnianie wiedzy, rozwijanie kształcenia oraz badań naukowych we współpracy z szeroko pojętym otoczeniem społeczno-gospodarczym szkoły wyższej. Wsparciem dla tak określonego środowiska akademickiego jest nowoczesna biblioteka naukowa rozumiana jako centrum wiedzy i zasobów (Learning and Resource Centre) lub jej wyższa forma – centrum wiedzy i badań naukowych (Learning and Research Centre. W holistycznym modelu akademickim biblioteka jest zintegrowanym systemem – otwartym na zmiany i potrzeby środowiska – hybrydową biblioteką, która umiejętne łączy w jeden wspólny kontekst ideę biblioteki tradycyjnej z nowoczesną przestrzenią cyfrową. Przystosowanie biblioteki do zmian otoczenia polega na uświadomieniu nowych potrzeb użytkowników i dostosowaniu do nich nowej oferty usług oraz sposobu funkcjonowania. Nowy budynek biblioteki uwzględnia założenia nowoczesnego karstwa dotyczące budownictwa, organizacji przestrzeni, układów funkcjonalnych, a także zadań i misji biblioteki w środowisku naukowym. Biblioteka Uniwersytetu Zielonogórskiego to nowa przestrzeń – bogate interaktywne środowisko naukowe z efektywną integracją usług bibliotecznych, oparte na najnowszych technologiach. Sposób ukształtowania przestrzeni, organizacja zbiorów i usług służą realizacji popularnej w świecie idei biblioteki otwartej – bez barier przestrzennych i organizacyjnych, z wolnym dostępem do zbiorów i usług. Wolny dostęp do wiedzy, wykorzystanie nowoczesnych technologii i uczenie się przez całe życie to nieodzowne elementy nowoczesnego, rozwijającego się społeczeństwa.
