Biegacz urozmaicony Carabus variolosus Fabricius, 1787 w polskiej części Sudetów Wschodnich

Journal Title: Przyroda Sudetów - Year 2018, Vol 21, Issue

Abstract

Carabus variolosus Fabricius, 1787 in the Polish part of the Eastern Sudetes Carabus variolosus Fabricius, 1787 is a semiaquatic carabid beetle, rare and endangered in many European countries; it is listed in the EU Habitats Directive. The paper presents the current state of knowledge on its distribution in the Polish part of the Eastern Sudetes based on fieldwork of 2007-2017. We found a total of 55 localities on over 18 streams (Fig. 1), between 510 and 1020 m a.s.l. (Bialskie Mts and Śnieżnik Massif above 700 m a.s.l., Fig. 2). Most of our records of are located in managed forests, with only a few in the Jaskinia Niedźwiedzia nature reserve. All the sites are located within the Śnieżnik Landscape Park and two in Natura 2000 SAC’s (PLH020016 and PLH020096). The most prosperous populations are located in the south-eastern part of the studied area, on the Biała Lądecka river and its tributaries above the village of Bielice. In some localities the species was recorded irregularly and not abundant (Kleśnica valley in Śnieżnik Massif) or not reported recently (Przyrnia stream in Złote Mts). Considering the lack of documented records from more western parts of the Sudetes, the present records determine (together with the Czech localities in the Śnieżnik Massif) the western border of the subspecies C. v. variolosus in the Sudetes as well as in Europe.
