BIOCHEMICAL COMPARATIVE STUDY FOR SERUM OXIDANT-ANTIOXIDANTS STATUS IN ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH ATRIAL FIBRILLATION
Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 3
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of serum oxidant-antioxidants status in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation. Using the lipid peroxidation marker, malondialdehyde (MDA) and preventative antioxidants ceruloplasmin (Cp), transferrin (Tf), albumin (Alb) and uric acid in serum of patients with atrial fibrillation. Blood samples were obtained from (75) patients with atrial fibrillation, as well as (75) healthy subjects as a control group. They divided into four groups as the following: Elderly Group:- included thirty nine (39) of atrial fibrillation patients aged (60-80) years. Control Elderly Group: included thirty nine (39) healthy subjects aged (60-80)years. Others Group: included thirty six (36) of atrial fibrillation patients aged (20-59) years. Control Others Group: included thirty six (36) healthy subjects aged (20-59)years. Results: the results in this study showed significant increase (P≤0.05) in concentration of serum (MDA,CP,uric acid) in all patient with atrial fibrillation regardless to their age in comparison with control groups. we found significant increase in concentration of serum MDA in elderly group in comparison with others group, also we found significant increase in concentration of serum uric acid in control elderly group in comparison with control others group (p≤0.05). But we found no significant differences in concentration of serum CP acid between elderly and others groups (p≤0.05). While serum Alb and serum Tf concentrations show a significant decrease in all patient with atrial fibrillation regardless to their age in comparison with control groups (p≤0.05). we found no significant differences in concentration of serum Alb and serum Tf between elderly and others groups (p≤0.05).
