Bir Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Çalışanlarında Periyodik Muayene, Viral Parametreler, Tükenmişlik Sendromu ve Depresyon Durumlarının Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Aim: We aimed to evaluate the periodic examinations, viral infection screening, biochemical parameters and vaccination status, along with the burnout and depression symptoms of employees at Faculty of Dentistry. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive study among 155 of 162 (95.7%) employees of Selcuk University Faculty of Dentistry in the 2015-2016 academic year. Along with the Maslach Burnout and Beck Depression Inventories, socio-demographic characteristics, risk factors and, vaccination status were recorded; blood tests were done, burnout levels and depressive symptoms of employees were screened. Results: Of the study group; 79 (51%) were trainees, 39 (25.2%) were academician and 37 (23.9%) were other health staff in dentistry. The average age of the participants is 35.45 ± 9.76 years (min = 24, max=59) and 85 (54.8%) were women. First three of the most common chronic diseases among the participants were hypothyroidism 11 (7.09%), diabetes 8 (5.1%) and hypertension 4 (2.5%). First three of the most common risk status of the participants (n=39) were dust exposure 8 (20.5%), radiation and dust 7 (17.9%), acrylic exposure 6 (15.4%). Of the participants, 69 (45.1%) had positive hepatitis A antibody and 84 (54.9%) were negative for hepatitis A antibody. Mean emotional exhaustion score of full professors who attended the screening was significantly lower than the trainees’ and when categorized 10 (6.5%) had significant depressive symptoms (17 and above score) in the Beck Depression Inventory. Conclusion: When taking necessary precautions and early diagnosis detection of preventable work-related situations and correcting the negative situations are important for both in providing quality of health services and in health professionals such as dentists.
