Insecticide Residues in Abelmoscous esculantus(Lady’s fingers) Crop Grown in Treated Soil
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2011, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
The pesticides, which leave residues in the soil for a fairly long time, are easily translocated in plants to contaminate their edible portions significantly. This results in constant exposure to humans and animals to pesticides and contamination of their flesh, blood, milk and meat. These situations have threatened nature’s ecosystem seriously. This investigations on different concentrations of organochlorine insecticides (lindane, aldrine) & organophosphorous insecticide (Monocrotophos) with respect to a major tropical vegetable crop of Aabelmoschus esculantus (Lady’s finger or OKRA) under similar conditions have been the pivotal text of this paper and were performed by pot culture analysis and Thin Layer Chromatography (T.L.C.) techniques. The results showed that at very high levels of pesticides and its constant exposure disturbs soil eco balance irreversibly.

Organic Vegetable Growing in Mkuranga District and Farmers knowledge on its Contribution to Health and Environment
Organic agriculture has great positive impacts to the environment. Likewise, human health has close connection with the state of the environment. Organic agriculture produces food that has less agricultural chemical resi...
Evaluation of Water Hyacinth Compost Stability Using Respirometric Techniques
Composting is one of the alternative methods to convert water hyacinth into useful product. Because of its decomposed structure it easily transforms into stable compost. Stability is an important compost quality...
Effects of Magnetized Low Quality Water on Some Soil Properties and Plant Growth
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of magnetic treatments on Tomato grown under saline irrigation conditions (Nile water, 1000, 3000, 6000, 9000 and 12000 ppm). In doing so, three replicates of pot...
Calorimetric Determination of Energy Content of Alcohol fuels and Blends with Kerosene
In this research we explored the calorific or heat value of alcohol fuels as well as blends with kerosene by using both glass and bomb calorimeters comparatively. The calorific values obtained from the combustion of alco...
