BORDER CROSSING AS A METHOD OF MULTIPLE WORLDS CONSTRUCTING IN BAROQUE PILGRIM LITERATURE

Abstract

The border crossing topic is noticeable in the Ukrainian literary context. For instance, Realism considered travel motive as inorganic for the entire national culture. However, border crossing is traditional in the history of Ukrainian Medieval and Baroque literature. In general, pilgrim prose is the literature genre which describes experience of journey to the holy places. That`s why border crossing motive is one of the main methods of constructing multiple worlds. The topic of investigation is border crossing as a method of constructing multiple worlds in baroque pilgrim literature. Due to the peculiarities of it, Baroque pilgrim prose is singled out as the subject. The object of study is border crossing motive as method of constructing plural spatial models. The methodology of investigation includes historical, structural and comparative analysis. Scientific novelty of this issue is investigation and describing of Medieval and Baroque pilgrim literature features. For instance, Baroque authors recover their experience in the wider personal context. The main goal of pilgrimage was journey to the holy places but this works included illustrations or wider and emotional description of cultural life in exotic countries. This tradition also fixed the spatial constructions which represents multiverse model. There are roads, holy places, rocks, caves, temples and cells. These chronoscopes improve plural spatial construction in the pilgrim literature. This work is actually for Ukrainian literature in the context of literary theory and spatial analysis. Border crossing motives of Baroque pilgrim prose activates dual spatial constructions and expands the boundaries of Ukrainian cultural and literary life.
