Bourdieu in Turkey: Translation space in revival<p>Bourdieu en Turquie : L’espace des traductions en pleine émergence

Abstract
A strongly internationalized scientific space promoting disciplinary and interdisciplinary exchange through the circulation of theories and methods, scientific knowledge, ideas and thinkers directs us to build a reflexion on the space of translations. Such a reflexion gives us potentials to reflect on national spaces, limits of exchanges and social conditions of reception of a particular author and a particular work. International circulation of ideas is a privileged subject for Bourdieu as well. This article aims to illustrate the question with an empirical research about the translation of Bourdieu’s work, today in Turkey. In this study, as cultural products of the intellectual field, Pierre Bourdieu’s works in Turkish language which circulate in the space, publishing houses, translators and diverse mediators will be considered. The translation, which certainly does not explain the integrity of the fact of reception, is however an important component for the circulation of ideas in book format for the scientific space. Conditions of accessibility of bourdieusian work in the national space also depend on translations.A large number of articles study the reception and the circulation of bourdieusian thinking in international space in relation with the production space and translations. In the light of these studies, we also have the objective of contributing to lines of research with the data of the space of translation in Turkey. We conducted the research with 42 works of Bourdieu in French. We considered these works, classified in translated themes, with translators’ space, mediating agents who promoted the introduction of works, editorial space which publishes the works and the rhythm of translations compared with the international rhythm. We have concluded that relatively late entrance of works compared to the evolution of the international space, poor representation of certain themes in the national space, differences in chronology of Bourdieu’s work translated in Turkish, the multiplicity of translators and the publishing houses characterize Turkish field. The perspective of relationality and historicity of Bourdieu’s works between one another seems to be closely in relation with the translation chronology of his work, which contribute to the reception of the thinking on the international space of social sciences. RésuméUn espace scientifique fortement internationalisé qui favorise les échanges disciplinaires et interdisciplinaires par la circulation des théories et méthodes, du savoir scientifique, des courants de pensées et des penseurs nous oriente à construire une réflexion sur l’espace des traductions. C’est d’ailleurs une telle réflexion qui offre les potentiels pour penser les espaces nationaux, les limites des échanges et les conditions sociales de réception de tel ou tel auteur, de tel ou tel œuvre. La circulation internationale des idées est une question privilégiée pour Bourdieu lui-même. Cet article a pour objectif d’illustrer la question avec une recherche empirique sur la traduction aujourd’hui des ouvrages de Pierre Bourdieu en Turquie. Dans cette pratique, produits culturels du champ intellectuel, les ouvrages de Bourdieu en turc en circulation ainsi que les maisons d’édition, les traducteurs et divers médiateurs seront considérés. La traduction, certes n’expliquant à elle-même seule toute une question de réception est une importante composante d’ailleurs pour la circulation du savoir sous format livre dans l’espace scientifique. Les conditions d’accessibilité de l’œuvre bourdieusien dans l’espace national dépendent donc en partie des traductions.Plusieurs articles étudient la réception et la circulation de la pensée bourdieusienne dans l’espace international en relation avec l’espace de production et les traductions. A la lueur de ces études, nous avons pour but de contribuer à ces recherches avec les données de l’espace des traductions en Turquie. Nous avons réalisé la recherche autour de 42 ouvrages de Bourdieu en français et considéré les ouvrages regroupés par thème traduit, l’espace des traducteurs, des agents médiateurs qui ont favorisé/favorisent l’introduction des ouvrages, l’espace éditorial qui publie les ouvrages ainsi que le rythme comparé des traductions avec le rythme international. Comme nous allons le montrer ; l’entrée relativement tardive par rapport à l’évolution de l’espace international, les thèmes existant dans l’espace national, la chronologie des ouvrages de Bourdieu traduits en turc ; et autour des traductions, la multiplicité des traducteurs et de maisons d’édition caractérisent l’espace turc. La perspective de relationalité et d’historicité des travaux de Bourdieu entre eux semble être en relation étroite avec l’ordre chronologique des traductions qui contribue à la réception de la pensée sur l’espace international des sciences sociales.
