Breast self-examination knowledge and practices in nursing students during the pandemic

Abstract
This research aimed to determine the association between knowledge and practices of breast self-exa-mination in nursing students during the pandemic. This study used a quantitative approach, non-experi-mental design, correlational scope, and cross-sectional analysis. A non-probabilistic convenience sample of 429 female nursing students participated in the study. The information was obtained with the application of two instruments: knowledge of breast self-examination consisting of 12 items, consisting of four response options, which has a reliability of 0.98 and the content validity was 0.95; the second instrument, breast self-examination practice consisting of 15 Likert-type questions with a reliability of 0.97, with a content validity of 0.82. The results show that 3.3 % of the students have inadequate practi-ces, and 96.7 % have adequate breast self-examination practices. Likewise, a statistically significant association at 95 % confidence was established between the study variables. It was concluded that the knowledge and practices of breast self-examination were directly and significantly related to nursing students, and a high percentage of them performed adequate practices. The data suggest that university students with more excellent knowledge tend to perform breast self-examination practices more regu-larly and consistently.
