CALCULATION OF ECONOMIC WEIGHTING COEFFICIENTS FOR FAT AND PROTEIN CONTENT IN MILK

Abstract

Economic weighting coefficients belong to indispensable elements of breeding indexes, because its usage allows adapting of linear model to market requirements. Depending on demand different traits have various economic importances. Therefore, in world praxis the coefficients are calculated for each case (market) separate, considering demands and needs for products. Ukraine follows the same principle, because on its market stable demand on different milk compounds (fat, protein) are fixed. At the same time such development of demand did not influenced the national breeding activities and economic weighting coefficients has not been recalculated during a long period. The aim of this study was the calculation of economic weighting coefficients for some milk productivity traits of Holstein cattle in Ukraine. Calculation was based on changing of potential income from milk production depending on reducing or increasing of fat or protein content. After completing of the analysis it can be concluded that for basis price of raw milk 7.35 UAH/l, economic value of protein content was 0.015 UAH/0.01 % and of fat content – 0.009 UAH/0.01 %. Economic weighting coefficients for protein and fat content were 0.015 and 0.009 correspondently. Obtained coefficients can be used in breeding work with dairy cattle in Ukraine.
