Callus formation from immature inflorescences in Cedar and hybrid Mahogany
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2004, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Meliaceas have great importance in the construction and furniture production, among other applications. Swietenia mahogany x Swietenia macrophylla is a hybrid originally from the Caribbean islands, in Cuba its known as hybrid mahogany. In Swietenia hybrid and Cedrela odorata the natural propagation is by seed and asexual by graft. These forms of propagation are limited, in the production of these species. Biotechnological techniques may help to find new ways for its propagation. The objective of this paper was to provide callus formation in Swietenia mahogany x Swietenia macrophylla and Cedrela odorata for the in vitro propagation. Mature trees of 40 years old (Swietenia hybrids and Cedrela odorata) were used. Young inflorescences from branches were taken from these plants, which were disinfected with the same protocol reported for other Meliaceas and they were established in the culture medium MS + 0-1 mg.l -1 Thidiazuron. Callus nodular with good morphogenic characteristics were obtained. The somatic embryos were achieved in the darkness in Swietenia mahogany x Swietenia macrophylla

Histological characterization of sugarcane shoots in vitro rooting in liquid culture medium
In the sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) propagation in temporary immersion there are individual shoots or groups of shoots that require their in vitro rooting before being transferred to natural conditions. The objective of t...
Oxidative burst in plant-pathogen interaction
The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) via consumption of oxygen in a so-called oxidative burst is a hallmark of successful recognition of infection and activation of plant defenses. ROS are not only toxic by-...
Effect of Bacillus spp. son agricultural growth and yield of potato in vitro plant cv. ‘Romano’ in greenhouse
The potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) culture requires the intensive use of fertilizers which are expensive and cause environmental damage to soil and water. The application of microorganisms that may contribute to plant n...
Use of Temporary Immersion Systems for the large-scale production of in vitro tubers of Solanum tuberosum L. var. Atlantic and study of its behavior in the field
A special temporary immersion system was designed in order to scale up the potato in vitro tubers production as an alternative method for potato seed production. An average of 2.6 in vitro tubers with an average fresh we...
