Capabilities and Limitations of Path Gain Adjustment in Harmonic Rejection Mixers
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Computer and Communication Technology - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 11
Abstract
Harmonic rejection ratios (HRR) of harmonic rejection mixers (HRM) are limited because of gain and phase inaccuracies. Gain and phase calibration can be employed to enhance HRRs. This paper deals in a systematic way with the number of harmonics that can be completely suppressed simultaneously in HRMs using only gain adjustment in the presence of uncorrected phase errors. For this purpose the conditions for harmonic suppression are expressed as a system of equations and the system is examined. The restrictions on the combinations of completely suppressed harmonics are examined too. It is shown that the complete suppression of some combinations of local oscillator harmonics can result in extremely large path gains and unacceptable SNR degradation. The results are applicable to HRMs with gain calibration as well as to HRMs employing digital domain harmonic rejection techniques.
