CaracterÃsticas da produção cientÃfica dos professores do Instituto de Ciências Humanas e da Informação da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande – FURG (2009 – 2012)

Abstract
This paper exposes the characteristics of scientific production from teachers linked to the Institute of Human Sciences and Information – ICHI, from Federal University of Rio Grande – FURG. We analyzed publications in scientific journals, books and book chapters, between the years 2009 and 2012. The data was collected at Lattes Curriculum Platform, from CNPq. The results show that more than half of the publications (53.5%) had multiple authors, mainly from two to three authors. Regarding productivity, teachers from History and Geography courses have more than half of all publications from ICHI. The analysis regarding types of publications have shown a predominance of papers and journals, and differences between courses were identified. Teachers from History and Archeology courses have published more books and book chapters, while in Psychology and Library Science courses papers were predominant. It is paramount that library professionals have a clear perception of these distinctions, since this factor contributes to the qualification of activities regarding the use of sources and information and the development of collections and archives. As for the journals employed, we verified a strong endogenous quality, there is, the papers published in titles edited by FURG prevailed. Therefore, we consider important the existence of an orientation for teachers to search external sources as communication channels, since it would consist of a valid strategy to increase diffusion and academic visibility for work by teachers from ICHI and, consequently, for the Federal University of Rio Grande – FURG.
