Catalonia and the right to self-determination

Abstract
The article describes that in the second decade of the XXI century suddenly there was a problem of self-determination of the Spanish province of Catalonia. The article notes that the Catalans already have self-determination in the Spanish state. Spain is a democratic country in which Catalans have full and equal rights as Spanish citizens. Kata-lonia joined the Kingdom of Castile as a partner in Spain more than five centuries ago through legal means. The article says that in order to declare a successful Declaration of self-determination through secession, Catalonia wanted to show that she was a victim of the current brutal oppression. The author proves that the attempts of Catalan leaders to separate from Spain the unilateral Declaration of independence (UDI) on the basis of the disputed results of the referendum are unstable in the light of long-established practices and principles underlying the principle of self-determination.
