“CELL PROLIFERATION BIOMARKER (KI-67) PROFILING: EFFECT OF GREEN TEA EXTRACT AND BLACK GRAPES ON BREAST TUMORS IN WISTAR RATS”

Journal Title: INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CLINICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC RESEARCH - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 5

Abstract

The Ki-67 protein, measured with immunohistochemical techniques, is a useful marker of cell proliferation in cancer. Ki-67 is an early predictor of treatment efficacy and as a prognostic factor of long term outcome. Ki-67 is frequently measured as a static marker of proliferative activity. The expression of Ki-67 varies in intensity throughout the cell cycle. Ki67 expression is usually estimated as the percentage of tumor cells positively stained by the antibody, with nuclear staining being the most common criterion of positivity. Currently, image analysis techniques will enhance the precision of assessment.
