Journal Title: Psychiatria i Psychoterapia - Year 2010, Vol 6, Issue 3

Abstract

Introduction: This is a case report of the 58-year old patient with organic amnestic syndrom resulting from hypoxemic brain injury during sudden circulatory arrest. The patient underwent 2 cycles of cerebrolysin treatment in the one of university psychiatry ward. Aim: To assess cerebrolysin‘s efficacy in the treatment of presented organic amnestic syndrom. Material and Methods: Analysed data were delivered from discharge abstracts from previous hospitalizations in cardiology, psychiatry wards and medical documentation  of our psychiatry department. Cognitive functions were assesed in Montreal Assessment Cognitive (MoCA). Patient received 10 ml cere a day 5 days/week for 4 consecutive weeks. The time between cycles was about 5 months. Results and Conclusions: No side effects of cere appeared. Clinical observations and assessment in MoCA indicated no improvement of cognitive functions and global functioning after two cycles of cerebrolysin treatment. However, we can’t exclude that stable state of cognitive impairment and no dementia development, results from cere’s neuroprotective activity in this patient.
