Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2024, Vol 28, Issue 2
Abstract
The study aimed to determine the challenges and coping mechanisms that affect the pre-board performance of the LET takers. The study employed simple random sampling. The total number of respondents who participated in the study were 130 LET takers at Catalyst Pro Tutorial and Review Center in Iligan. A descriptive-correlational design was used. Descriptive research used in describing socio-economic profile and the challenges and coping mechanisms of LET takers. It is also correlational research since the socio-economic profile, the challenges and, the coping mechanisms of let takers were correlated to the pre- board performance of the LET takers. Hence, these findings underscore the multifaceted nature of challenges faced by students during examination preparation, encompassing personal, financial, and familial domains. these findings underscore the importance of employing a diverse range of coping mechanisms to effectively manage challenges. By engaging in problem-solving approaches, seeking social support, and being mindful of avoidance behaviors, individuals can develop resilience and adaptive coping strategies to navigate life's difficulties successfully. The mean pre-board score for the entire sample is 74.10, with a standard deviation of 10.85. This provides an average measure of performance across all respondents, indicating the overall level of achievement in the pre-board examinations. The analysis revealed that none of the correlations between the challenges faced by LET takers and their pre-board performance are statistically significant at the 0.05 level. Specifically, the correlation coefficients for personal, financial, parental, and total challenges are all negative, indicating a tendency for higher levels of challenges to be associated with lower pre-board performance, but these associations are not significant based on the p-values.
