Challenges of Conducting Social Research in Metropolitan Cities after Law no. 6360
Journal Title: Black Sea Journal of Public and Social Science - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
This study examines the impact of Law No. 6360, which was commonly known as “Law of Metropoles”, on performing social studies. To that end, history of laws made to regulate the metropoles has been studied and the changes brought in by this particular law together with the executions of public bodies have been researched. Difficulty of official statistics supporting social studies that require them has been discussed, especially the ones that focus on differences between urban and rural areas and those that necessitate the breakdown of population by gender due to the legal changes compounded by the arbitrarily defined criteria, as these make very central areas seem to be rural and vice versa. As a result, methods for determining rural and urban areas by recent satellite maps and assessing the gender percentages by calculation have been offered to overcome these obstacles.
