CHANGE ON LEVELS OF SUCCESS BASED ON ENTRANCE EXAMS AND DIPLOMA GRADES

Abstract
Students with high scores on their university entrance exams generally have low or average diploma grades. Conversely, students with low or average scores on their university entrance exams generally achieve high diploma grades. This situation is a problem deserving of study. The purpose of this study is to determine why some students are more successful than other students during their university life, and it is based on the opinions of the students themselves. This research is a case study which single-case design was used. 25 students graduated from Marmara University Department of Culture of Religion And Knowledge of Ethics Education For Elementary Schools participated in this research. The data have been obtained via unstructured interviews and focus groups and were analyzed by inductive content analysis. Most of the students in this study stated that the most important factors contributing to high levels of success included one’s anxiety level, linguistic competence, test-taking skills, future plans after graduation, types of exams, time spent preparing for exams, an attitude that the “department’s exams are easy,” motivational level, and a love of the department.
