CHANGES IN CONCENTRATION OF MACROELEMENTS IN THE BLOOD SERUM OF LONG DISTANCE RUNNERS BEFORE AND AFTER PREPARATORY PERIOD

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2008, Vol 24, Issue 3

Abstract

Background. The aim of this study to assess calcium, phosphorus, magnesium concentration changes in the blood serum of the long distance runners, running three distances: group I - 2000 m, group II - 4000 m, group III - 6000 m.Material and methods. The study was carried out in 22 selected soldiers with, mean age of 21,2 years. They were divided into groups according to the running distance. The long distance runners ran their trial distances twice, before and after the preparatory period at the following time points: before, immediately after, and 24 hours after the run. Macroelement serum concentration was determined using a firm test.Result. The second effort trial showed that the 30-day preparatory period affected the changes in blood level of macroelements (group II) including phosphorus (group III) and magnesium concentration (both groups I and III) compared to the first exercise test.Conclusions. During our investigation, significant changes in blood serum were noted, depending on the distance and the running time before and after the preparatory period: changes in calcium concentration after a 2000 m run, phosphorus concentration was changed in calcium concentration after a 4000 m run and magnesium concentration was changed after a 6000 m run.
