Changes in integrin-positive cells and T cell subpopulations in the peripheral blood and intestine of calves fed soya protein
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2010, Vol 19, Issue 3
Abstract
integrin expression, 16 male 10-day-old Holstein calves were divided into two groups. For 28 days of the experiment, eight males were fed NutriMilk in which 50% of the crude protein was soya protein, and eight control animals, with NutriMilk containing only milk casein. The animals fed soya protein showed shorter jejunal villi with a corrugated surface and deeper crypts compared with the control calves. A higher density of CD8+ cells in the intestinal mucosa and a decrease of these cells in peripheral blood were found in calves fed soya protein. The number of CD11b-positive cells was decreased in the peripheral blood of calves fed soya protein. Lower expression of integrin could be related to the appearance of non-mature polymorphonuclear cells. It is not clear if the decrease in CD11b expression on blood cells could also be influenced by milk replacer, i.e. soya protein.

Effect of antioestrogens on proliferation, differentiation and telomerase activity of pig granulosa cells in vitro
The aim of the present work was to study the effect of oestrogen receptor inhibitors (ICI 164.384; ICI and cyclofenil; CF) on proliferation, oestradiol synthesis, aromatase expression and telomerase activity (TA) of pig...
The use of genetically modified Roundup Ready soyabean meal and genetically modified MON 810 maize in broiler chicken diets. Part 2. Functional status of the small intestine
The effects of genetically modified (GM) soyabean meal (SBM) and GM maize on the functional status of the small intestine of broiler chickens was studied. Eight diets were prepared, based on conventional or GM SBM (GTS 4...
Effects of replacing fish meal with ensiled catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) by-products on the performance and carcass quality of finishing pigs
Thirty castrated finishing male pigs were used to evaluate the effects of replacing fish meal (FM) with ensiled Tra catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus) by-products (ECM) on performance and carcass quality. Pigs were alloca...
The response of rats to solanidine glycoalkaloids and trypsin inhibitor present in potato protein concentrates, and to glycoalkaloids provided by potato sprouts
The effects of potato protein concentrates (PPC) differing in dietary solanidine glycoalkaloids (SGA) and trypsin inhibitor activity (TI), and of potato sprouts with differing SGA levels, were studied in rats. In Experim...
Comparison of jejunal digestive enzyme activities, expression of nutrient transporter genes, and apparent fecal digestibility in weaned piglets fed diets with varied sources of fiber
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different fiber sources on jejunal digestive and absorptive physiology in weaned piglets. One hundred weaned piglets were allotted according to body weight, gende...
