Changes in Kyiv’s geology regarding the technogeneous impact on soils

Abstract

Issues of the strength of the soil foundations and their deformation properties that directly affect the bearing capacity of the foundation are essential for the development of geotechnical construction in difficult conditions of dense urban building. Long-term development of the city, the surface soil is transformed from the natural state into soil with broken structure. The knowledge about strength and deformation properties of such soils help to prevent a negative impact on future buildings. The technological impact on the natural environment of Kyiv is defined. Territorial areas with ill-balanced soil are defined and the research of changes of geological layer structure of technogeneous soil that are the result of dense urban development is conducted. The increase of the amount of building yards is the additional source of soil layer pollution with inorganic additives. Basic physical characteristics of soil are defined according to the geological framework. The main indicators affecting the deformation properties of the soil are highlited. The change of the physical characteristics of the ill-balanced soil is analyzed. A change of strain properties from the percentage of inorganic impurities is studied.
