CHANGES IN THE SPATIAL CONCENTRATION OF EMPLOYMENT ACROSS POLISH VOIVODSHIPS

Abstract
The aim of this paper was to recognize and assess the changes in the spatial concentration of employment across Polish voivodships and to compare the growth of number of employed persons in the different types of districts. The author used the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index to investigate whether the employment was becoming more or less concentrated. Using the data from Local Data Bank, it was indicated that in the period 2005-2016 the number of employed persons was rising at the fastest rate in the largest cities and their closest proximity. The growth rate was relatively slower in the medium-sized and small urban districts. It resulted in the increase of concentration coefficient of employment in 9 voivodships<br/><br/>
