Characteristics of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA01 Intercellular Signaling Pathway (Quorum Sensing) Functioning in Presence of Porphyrins Bismuth Complexes
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2015, Vol 64, Issue 2
Abstract
The influence of synthetic and natural porphyrins bismuth complexes on P. aeruginosa quorum sensing system was carried out by detection of the pyocyanin, rhamnolipids and autoinducers biosynthesis level. The highest ability to reduce pyocyanin biosynthesis showed Bi(III)-TPP. Rhamnolipids production level also decreased in the presence of studied compounds. This effect was the most expressed in presence of 40 and 80 μM of the synthetic meso-substituted porphyrins. Autoinducers biosynthesis, especially 3-oxo-C[sub]12[/sub]-HSL was suppressed in presence of the bismuth complexes. That suggest that the mechanisms of action of this substances is an inhibition of signaling molecules or/and receptor for them.

Pexophagy in Penicillin G Secretion by Penicillium chrysogenum PQ-96
Penicillin G oversecretion by Penicillium chrysogenum PQ-96 is associated with a strictly adjusted cellular organization of the mature and senescent mycelial cells. Abundant vacuolar phagy and extended cellular vacuoliza...
Screening and Identification of Yeasts Antagonistic to Pathogenic Fungi Show a Narrow Optimal pH Range for Antagonistic Activity
Microbes have evolved ways of interference competition to gain advantage over their ecological competitors. The use of secreted antagonistic compounds by yeast cells is one of the prominent examples. Although this killer...
IgG Avidity: an Important Serologic Marker for the Diagnosis of Tick-Borne Encephalitis Virus Infection
A total of 52 serum sles from patients with symptoms suggestive of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) infection and positive IgM and/or IgG antibodies were tested for IgG avidity. Acute/recent TBEV infection was confir...
Dipicolinic Acid Release and the Germination of Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris Spores under Nutrient Germinants
The presence of Alicyclobacillus, a thermoacidophilic and spore-forming bacterium, in acidic fruit juices poses a serious problem for the processing industry. A typical sign of spoilage in contaminated juices is a charac...
