Characterization of Extended-Spectrum-β-Lactamases Produced by Escherichia coli Strains Isolated from Dogs in Poland
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2015, Vol 64, Issue 3
Abstract
Escherichia coli is a common cause of infections in companion animals. In recent years the increasing prevalence of resistance to β-lactams, including extended-spectrum cephalosporins, antimicrobials frequently used in small animal veterinary practice, was observed in canine isolates of E. coli. The aim of this study was to detect and to characterize extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) produced by E. coli isolated from diseased dogs in Poland. Four isolates out of 119 studied (3.4%) were ESBL-positive. They harbored the blaSHV-12, blaCTX-M-15, and blaTEM-116 genes. This study provides the first report of the occurrence of ESBL-producing E. coli in dogs in Poland.

Genes Controlling 2-deoxyglucose Induced Lysis and Formation of Reactive Oxygen Species in Schizosaccharomyces pombe
Schizosaccharomyces pombe cells of strains each carrying a deletion of one of the genes snf5, ypa1, pho7 and pas1 and of a strain overexpressing gene odr1, have been previously shown to grow in presence of the toxic gluc...
Monitoring of Virulence Genes, Drug-Resistance in Cylobacter coli Isolated from Golden Retrievers
The investigation was performed on 75 of Golden Retriever puppies. Faecal sles were collected on the 42 day of the puppies life (control). Probiotic preparation was administered on 43 day of the puppies life and 10 days...
Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Phoma complanata, a New Causal Agent of Archangelica officinalis Hoffm. in Poland
The paper concerns the fungus Phoma complanata, isolated for the first time in Poland, from the roots and umbels of angelica (Archangelica officinalis) in 2009. The morphology of fungal isolates was tested on standard cu...
Relationship between ureB Sequence Diversity, Urease Activity and Genotypic Variations of Different Helicobacter pylori Strains in Patients with Gastric Disorders
Association of the severity of Helicobacter pylori induced diseases with virulence entity of the colonized strains was proven in some studies. Urease has been demonstrated as a potent virulence factor for H. py...
Study of Patterns and Markers of Human Immune Deficiency Virus -1 (HIV-1) Progression and Unemployment Rate among Patients from Alexandria, Egypt
