Chemical Composition and Anti-nutritive Values of Selected Browse Plants in Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria

Journal Title: Journal of Animal Science Advances - Year 2015, Vol 5, Issue 1

Abstract

The experiment was conducted in Jalingo Local Government Area, the analysis was done in the Department of Animal Production, animals were managed in the Teaching and Research farm, College of Agriculture Jalingo, Taraba State, among the browses used, Gmelina arborea has the highest content of CP and lowest ADF, Ziziphus mauritiana has higher value of Dm and EE than the rest of the browse. Ficus sycomorus in the other hand has higher value of ADF and NDF and least value of lignin. Danielia oliveri has higher value of NDF and least amount of ash. In the anti-nutritive analysis, Ziziphus mauritiana has the highest saponin content which is a substance depressing digestion. Gmelina aborea has higher content of Tanin (0.231) than the rest of the browse plants.
