Child-based Postcards Circulating in The 1970's: Celebration and Perspective
Journal Title: Uluslararası İnsan Çalışmaları Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
This research is based on the language and images used in child-based postcards. The postcards that circulate in the 1970s will be analyzed without being torn from their historical context, particularly from children's contact. The meaning of childhood and what it entails will be examined through visuals and writings. The postcards of tangible cultural objects will be depicted in children's postcards circulating in the 1970's, and the ones behind the postcards will be described with a phenomonological reading. People's experiences have been built on a problematic basis, created only through perception, leaving an edge. The multitude of subjects means different perceptions. Hence, experiential visuals, not experiential subjects, will participate in this research. In the images used, how girls and boys are represented and how femininity and masculinity roles are combined with visuality and writing in a family are the factors to be considered. Communicating by showing off a non-human entity, as well as using a separate language in communicating with children, is required to examine child-based postcards. In the 17th and 18th centuries, child perception also led to the concentration of children on different occasions and the different treatment of this theme over the current years. This research is about having an idea in terms of postcards not only visually but also through the eyes of those who have passed certain stages of printing and decided on the visuals (like, who selected, who took, who sent). Postcards, like photo albums, have evolved through certain stages and have different perspectives. They are also about recognizing that the images depicted or photographed are shaped through a single world view.
