CHILDREN'S BOOKS AND REDING HABIT

Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 44

Abstract

On the basis of the famous proverb -- You cannot teach an old dog new tricks, reading activity should be ingratiated in childhood if it is aimed to get an individual adopt it as a habit. Children's books are the most efficient books that can make a child love the activity of reading and have the habit of reading in the future. If it is prioritised to raise the individuals of the future who have reading habit, it is important to choose the "right" protagonists and subjects for all of the children's books, and what appeals to the children most should be determined. A children's book, as a literary work, can give a child very good emotinons and pleasures but it can also interact with them in a bad way. Thus, when literary works are being edited, it is significant to be careful and to deal with the matter of "children's books" scrupulously. The work to be created should be appropriate for the children's pleasures, preferences, idiocratical authenticity, dreams, perception and especially for their age. A qualified children's book improves a child's cognitive, mental, linguistic, social skills and makes them have impeccable aesthetical taste.
