Journal Title: Ciencia e Investigación Médica Estudiantil Latinoamericana - Year 2007, Vol 12, Issue 1

Abstract

Renal cell carcinomas represent more than 90% of malignant renal tumors, and 1 to 3% of visceral carcinomas. It’s more frequent in male adults who are between the 6th and 7th decade of life. Chromophobe cell carcinoma represents 5 to 8% of all renal carcinomas. The metastases from this tumor are more frequent to lung (50%) and bone (33%). Choice treatment is radical nephrectomy, with survival rate of 45% at 5 years. We present a clinical case of a 63 year old female patient with lumbar pain. Image studies (ACT and Ultrasound) reported a tumor-like lesion in the lower left kidney pole of approximately 6x6cm. Exploratory laparotomy was performed and nephrectomy was decided. Histopathology study reported chromophobe cell renal carcinoma. Chemotherapy was indicated with satisfactory outcome.
