Client’s Self-realization as Aim of Social Work: Underlying Principles of Social Help

Journal Title: Jaunųjų mokslininkų darbai - Year 2010, Vol 29, Issue 4

Abstract

The results of the research revealed, that there are 3 fundamental attitudes of implementation of self-realization as the aim of social work: 1) social problems could become the reason of essential changes in client’s life; 2) social problems are extraordinary experience, which could provide the possibility to learn; 3) the causes of social problems often are deeper than the symptomatical difficulties; causes are related with lack of satisfaction of the essential, deepest needs of a human being. Social work which is guided, directed by such principles can create conditions for seeking of true (inner) empowerment of client and solution of social problems in more deep level. It is credible that implementation of client’s self realization as social work aim creates not only special chalenges for the personality of social worker (for his or hers world view and basic principles). It requires creation of specific helping system. The characteristics of such specific helping system remain the object of further research.
