Journal Title: Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology Advances - Year 2014, Vol 4, Issue 6
Abstract
In order to assess the effects of antiretroviral drugs on the local population, a descriptive study was conducted on the tri-therapy ZIDOVUDINE-LAMIVUDINE-NEVIRAPINE. The 149 patients studied were selected from the patients infected with HIV, who started treatment at National Center of Blood Donors in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. These patients received regular treatment for 36 months, blood samples were taken every 6 months, clinical and laboratory assessments were performed. The results showed that all patients were infected with HIV-1 type. The analysis also showed a predominance of women and youths (17 to 35 years) in this studied population. Unmarried and employees in the private sector were the most infected, while the most important part of the patients were living in Yopougon, a district of Abidjan. Clinical and biological parameters analyzed showed positive impact of the treatment characterized by the increase of CD4+. The treatment did not show toxic effect on the liver and the kidney measured through the rate of creatinine and transaminases (TGO, TGP). The good level of Karnofsky score, the Body Mass Indice and the Brachial Perimeter reflected the good clinical status of patients.
