Journal Title: Kocatepe Medical Journal - Year 2023, Vol 24, Issue 2

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which has just been encountered by the whole world and has rapidly affected the world, started to spread quickly in our country, with the first case seen in Turkey as of March 11, 2020. In our study, it was aimed to examine the demographic data, clinical and laboratory evaluation, discharge and mortality rates of the patients who died from the COVID-19 patients we followed up in our hospital for a year. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The patient files of 3650 cases followed up with the diagnosis of COVID-19 in our hospital between 11.03.2020 - 31.03.2021 were examined. Mortal cases were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS: During the pandemic in this period, our hospital mortality rate is 11.3%. 255 (62,8) were male patients and the median age was 72 (18-106). The most frequent accompanying chronic diseases were hypertension in 141 (34,7) patients, followed by chronic kidney disease in 113 (27,8) patients. It was observed that the most common symptom at the time of admission was dyspnea (57,6). The median d-dimer value in the examinations of the patients was 1955 ng/mL (40-25810), and the median ferritin value was 450 ng/mL (9-10157). Thorax computed tomography images of 237 (94) patients were reported to be compatible with covid-19 pneumonia. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, our cases of mortality due to COVID-19 disease with a pandemic course were evaluated. It has been observed that male, older age, patients with hypertension and chronic kidney disease have a high rate among patients who have died from COVID-19.
