Journal Title: Journal of Animal Science Advances - Year 2013, Vol 3, Issue 6

Abstract

Femur fracture is one of the most common orthopedic affection in dogs. In present study immobilization of the fractured bone, using intramedullary pinning and interlocking nailing technique, was carried out in six animals. Dogs divided into 2 groups consisting of 3 animals each. In group I, animals were treated with intamedullary pinning whereas in group II, animals were treated with interlocking nailing and cerclage wiring at the fracture site. Healing of fractured femur following interlocking nailing technique was better with minimum complications as compared with intramedullary pinning.
