Clinico-epidemiological profile of superficial fungal infections in Rajasthan

Abstract

Introduction: Superficial fungal infection is one of the commonest skin infection throughout the world .A significant part of superficial fungal infection is caused by dermatophytes which may be anthropophilic, zoophilic or geophilic. Incidence of superficial fungal infection is on increase and cause significant morbidity. Importance of clinic-epidimiological study of cases of superficial fungal infection needs no emphasis. Objective: To study Clinico- epidemiological Profile of Superficial Fungal Infections in Rajasthan. Methods: 200 clinically diagnosed cases of superficial fungal infections were subjected to clinical and mycological examination along with fungal culture and species identification over a period of 12 months in 2013-14. Result: Tinea corporis 86(43%) was found to be commonest clinical pattern followed by tinea cruris 38(19%) whereas Trichophyton rubrum 69(43.12%) followed by trichophyton mentagrophtyes 56(35%) was found to be commonest species on culture.
