Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
The mass can be due to intra- or extra-abdominal causes. A swelling in the right iliac fossa may arise from the structures normally present in that region or from structures, which are abnormally situated in the region. Most of the causes need surgical intervention and are curable. A mass in the right iliac fossa mainly arises from appendix, caecum, terminal part of ileum, lymph nodes, iliopsoas sheath, and retroperitoneal connective tissue. With detailed history and thorough clinical examination, diagnosis of mass in right iliac fossa was made, then these patients will be subjected to relevant investigations like routine, USG abdomen, Chest X -ray, CT abdomen (if required) barium study (if required), histopathology, colonoscopy (if required). In our study contrast X-ray barium enema done in Carcinoma caecum and Ileocaecal tuberculosis. Pulled up caecum was the main feature in Ileocaecal tuberculosis and irregular filling defect was the feature in Carcinoma caecum. In our study, colonoscopy was done in 2 patients and showed malignant growth in caecum. In this study, CT scan was done to confirm the diagnosis in 2 patients of Appendicular mass, and in Carcinoma caecum, Ileocaecal tuberculosis, Retroperitoneal sarcoma. Most of patients of Carcinoma caecum had occult blood in stools.
