Abstract

The participants who were not sure whether the e-cigarette smoke was âmainly water vapor ï¼incorrectï¼â and whether the e-cigarette smoke âcontained nicotine ï¼correctï¼â and âcontained formaldehyde ï¼correctï¼â accounted for 62.71%ï¼ 54.44% and 61.91%ï¼ respectively. Among themï¼ 68.48%ï¼ 55.46% and 50.37%ï¼ respectivelyï¼ agreed that e-cigarettes would be âaddictiveâï¼ âharmfulâ and âthat second-hand smoke was harmfulâ. Binary logistic regression analysis showed the following risk factors for the low level of school personnelâs awareness of e-cigarette compositionsï¼ age â¥40 years ï¼OR=1.65ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.32â2.06ï¼ï¼ working in junior high school ï¼OR=1.37ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.09â1.73ï¼ï¼ educational attainment level as junior college or below ï¼OR=1.67ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.02â2.74ï¼ï¼ and not having participated in tobacco control education activities ï¼OR=1.37ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.08â1.73ï¼. Meanwhileï¼ working in junior ï¼OR=1.43ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.12â1.83ï¼ or senior ï¼OR=1.44ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.08â1.92ï¼ high schoolï¼ educational attainment level as junior college or belowï¼OR=2.10ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.24â3.56ï¼ï¼ having used e-cigarettes ï¼OR=2.98ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.63â5.42ï¼ï¼ not having participated in tobacco control education activities ï¼OR=1.49ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 1.16â1.92ï¼ and low level of awareness of e-cigarette compositions ï¼OR=4.24ï¼ 95%CIï¼ 3.44â5.23ï¼ were risk factors for the low level of school personnelâs awareness of e-cigarette hazards.ConclusionsThe level of e-cigarette awareness among school personnel in Shanghai is lowï¼ especially those who are olderï¼ had low educational attainment level and had used e-cigarettes. In the futureï¼ tobacco control education for school personnel should be strengthened to improve their cognition and ability of tobacco control on campus.
