Combination possibilities of commonly used words and terms in Еnglish

Abstract
The article highlights the combination possibilities of commonly used words and terms in English. Some examples of valencies of terms and combining terms derived from common words identifying parts of body, actions, and the phenomenon of the surrounding environment have been presented in this work. Special attention is drawn to the characteristic features of the grammatical valency of commonly used words and terms. Grammatical valency is the aptness of a word to appear in specific grammatical (or rather syntactic) structures. Its range is restricted by the part of speech the word belongs to. This is not to imply that grammatical valency of words belonging to the same part of speech is necessarily identical. From the one hand, valence possibilities of commonly used words and valence possibilities of terminological items, from another hand, have been analyzed. The present article clarifies that the peculiarities of the translation of technical terms and word combinations are based on the right understanding of terms itself. Combination possibilities of terminological lexical items appear because of the wide use of the homonymity of terms, their dependence on the context. Furthermore, available information and suggestions of potential solutions are useful for lexical and terminological theory. The defined principles of identifying combination possibilities of commonly used words and terms help to verify the theory of terminology in the field of science.
