Combustion Optimization of a High Speed High Power Marine Diesel Engine

Abstract

For the problem of excessive smoke and high fuel consumption in the marine high-speed high-power diesel engine, the optimization was conducted based on bench test and combustion simulation. Fuel injection system bench test and intake port blower bench test were used to provide accurate boundary conditions for the combustion simulation. The combustion process was analyzed based on the simulation. The optimal solution was validated on the engine test bench. The test results indicated that the fuel consumption and smoke are reduced significantly. Fuel consumption at one operating point is reduced by 10 g/ ( kW·h) , and smoke is reduced by 48. 4%. NOx satisfies IMO Tier Ⅱ requirement.
