Performance Test Bench of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines

Abstract

In order to improve the control precision and the test automation of vertical axis wind turbine test data,a performance test system of the vertical axis wind turbine was developed. The system was divided into three subsystems including wind wheel support and adjustment system,signal acquisition and analysis system,and loading system. Each of them was analyzed,calculated and designed. The wind speed,rotate speed and torque of a Savonius type wind turbine prototype were detected in real-time on the bench in the wind speed range from 5 m / s to 25 m / s and the load current range from 0 A to 18 A. The relationship between power and wind speed,and the maximum efficiency under different load were obtained. The results show that the test bench can test the performance parameters of vertical axis wind turbine,and achieve the desired performance of the design.
