Communicative potential of rhetorical questions in Spanish

Abstract
The article is devoted to the research of the communicative potential of rhetorical questions, found in Spanish texts of various genres. Different interpretations of the concept of “rhetorical question” are examined; the content of rhetorical questions is analysed in connection with the communicative purpose of the speaker. A new pragmatic resource is revealed related to the use of rhetorical questions leading to modifications in the communicative strategy of the author.
