Comparative Evaluation of Sighted and Visually Impaired Subjects using a Mobile Application for Reducing Veering during Blindfolded Walking
Journal Title: Acta Technica Jaurinensis - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 2
Abstract
Measurements were conducted using a navigational application on an Android Smartphone that provides auditory and haptic feedback based on electromagnetic sensor data (compass) in order to help users walk in a straight line. Blindfolded sighted subjects attempted to walk along a 40-meter path with and without navigational assistance. Results showed that optimal settings of accuracy, sensitivity and target direction on the device can significantly reduce veering. Further, it was shown that even a short training session consisting of four trials could lead to better subsequent performance without navigational assistance.

Stability Analysis of an Assembly Process Using Simulation
This paper deals with an assembly process of batteries with cell holder. The operation involves snap-fitting phenomenon, which is a mechanical stability problem. The structure of the cell holder is modelled with 2D flex...
NeuroCar Virtual Driving Environment: Simultaneous Evaluation of Driving Skills and Spatial Perceptual-attentional Capacity
We describe here a simple, inexpensive and effective system for simultaneous evaluation of a subject's driving ability and spatial auditory and visual perception and attention. It consists of a commercial steering wheel...
The Effect of Filler Orientation and Distribution on the Electrical and Mechanical Properties of Graphene Based Polymer Nanocomposites
The aim of my proposed study is to develop an alternative production technique of graphene via in-situ exfoliation of graphite in the hosting polymer matrix. The production process is carried out by an alternative top-do...
Analysation of the Effect of the Contact Properties on Soil’s Penetration Resistance in Discrete Element Simulations
Cone penetration in-situ tests are commonly used to measure the cone index of the soils. This measurement process can be modelled very well with Discrete Element Method (DEM) if the parameters of the correct contact mode...
Longitudinal Behaviour of Embedded Rails
The longitudinal behaviour of embedded rails significantly differs from that of ballasted and slab track with direct rail fastening. As the ambient temperature rises and falls, rails expand and contract, imposing stresse...
