Comparative Evaluation Of The Surface Roughness Of Bulk-Fill Composite Resin And Polyacid Modified Composite Resin
Journal Title: Uluslararası Dis Hekimligi Bilimleri Dergisi - Year 2024, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
Aim: The success of treatment can be affected by surface roughness, which can cause problems such as increased dental plaque, secondary caries formation, and decreased flexural strength in restorative materials. This study aims to evaluate the surface roughness of two commonly used composite resins, polyacid modified composite resin and bulk fill composite resin, in primary teeth. Methods: This study compared the surface roughness of discs made from light-cured polyacid modified composite resin (Glasiosite caps. A2, Voco, Germany) and SDR Plus bulk fill composite resin (Dentsplay, Germany). A total of 40 discs, 20 of each material, with a diameter of 10 mm and a thickness of 2 mm were prepared and polished using the Optidisk (KERR, Switzerland) polishing system. Surface roughness was measured using a profilometer (Perthometer M2, Mahr, Göttingen, Germany) and analysed using a t-test. Results: The Polyacid modified composite resin group had a statistically significantly higher mean surface roughness value than the Bulk-fill group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Polyacid-modified composite resin has a higher surface roughness than bulk fill composite. Therefore, bulk fill composites can be preferred in the selection of restorative materials for primary teeth in terms of surface roughness.
