Comparative Study on Performance Analysis of High Resolution Direction of Arrival Estimation Algorithms
Journal Title: International Journal of Advanced Research in Computer Engineering & Technology(IJARCET) - Year 2012, Vol 1, Issue 4
Abstract
Abstract-Array processing involves manipulation of signals induced on various antenna elements. Its capabilities of steering nulls to reduce co channel interferences and pointing independent beams toward various mobiles, as well as its ability to provide estimates of directions of radiating sources, make it attractive to a mobile communications system designer. This paper presents a performance evaluation of robust and highresolution direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithms such as MUSIC, ESPRIT and Q-MUSIC used in the design of smart antenna systems. A comparative study is carried out by evaluating the performance of these DOA algorithms for a set of input parameters that include the size of the sensor array, number and angular separation of incident signals from the mobile terminals, as well as noise characteristics of the mobile communication channel. MUSIC, ESPRIT and QMUSIC algorithms provide high angular resolution among the other current DOA estimation techniques and hence they are explored in detail. The simulation results shows that Q-MUSIC algorithm is highly accurate, stable and provides high angular resolution even for multidimensional complex data signals compared to ESPRIT and MUSIC.
