Journal Title: Journal of Science and today’s world - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 2

Abstract

The main objective of the present study was to compare the family content and process, personality traits, and self-esteem among male delinquent and normal adolescents in Shiraz. The research population included all delinquent male adolescents living in the correctional and rehabilitation center, of whom a sample of 50 persons was selected through simple random sampling. In addition, 50 non-delinquent adolescents were selected through multi-stage random sampling from the four educational districts in Shiraz for comparison with delinquent adolescents. To measure the research variables, Samani Family Content And Process Test, Neo Personality Inventory, and Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory were used. In order to compare the two groups in the research sample, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was run. The results of this study showed that the two groups were significantly different in terms of all five family process subscales (decision making and problem-solving, coping skill, integrity and mutual respect, communication skills, and religious beliefs), three of seven subscales of family content, (occupation, education, time for being together, and financial resources), three of five subscales of personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion, and conscientiousness), and all four self-esteem subscales (general, family, social, and educational).
