Comparison Of Clinical Examination And Mri Findings With Arthroscopy Findings Of Meniscal Lesions Occurring In Acl Deficient Knees

Abstract

AIM: To compare clinical examination and MRI findings with arthroscopy findings of meniscal lesions occurring in anterior cruciate ligament deficient knees and to determine the incidence of meniscal lesions in Acl deficient knees. MATERIAL AND METHOD: 60 patients with complete tear of Acl underwent, initial clinical and MRI evaluation followed by subsequent knee arthroscopy. The results were compared and analysed using various statistical tests. RESULTS: The overall incidence of a medial meniscus tear was 43.33%, and that of a lateral meniscus tear was 56.67% with posterior horn being the commonest site in both. Diagnostic accuracy of clinical examination varied from 65% to 83.33% for various tests. Diagnostic accuracy of MRI was 90% for medial meniscus and 80% for lateral meniscus CONCLUSION: Meniscal injuries are commonly present inAcl deficient knees occurring either at the time of injury or degenerate over a period of time. Clinical examination has low accuracy, thus MRI is a useful diagnostic tool for associated meniscal injuries, correlating well with arthroscopy
