COMPARISON OF METHODS FOR TESTING THE PEEL STRENGTH FOR DIFFERENT METHODS OF PREPARATION OF SURFACE SAMPLES

Abstract

The aim of this article was to compare two test methods of peel strength for the adhesive bond: Climbing Drum according to ASTM D1781 and the Floating Roller - ASTM D3167. The literature was reviewed to determine the adhesive properties and to compare the previously mentioned methods. Test were conducted on the same samples. Composite samples were made from carbon and glass prepregs in out of autoclave technology. Laminates were bonded with stainless steel tinware using structural adhesive film. The impact of steel surface preparation was checked for bonding strength values obtained from both tests methods. Before tests on Climbing Drum and Floating Roller the sets of tinware were prepared: first set were only grinding and cleaning, but second set were also chemical activate. After analyzing both methods and results it was set out that they can not to be compared.<br/><br/>
