Journal Title: International Journal of Ayurveda & Alternative Medicine - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 4
Abstract
Garavisha (Concoted poison) as per classics can be considered as any part of the body tissue, waste products, Bhasmas (ashes) of Viruddhaaushadhi (incompatible drugs), drug or poison having less potency, pulverized bodies of the insects, etc. It interferes with the digestion and affects the whole body by vitiating all the Dhatus (tissues) in the body and produces deleterious effects over a period of accumulation and is considered to be fatal in time. Tamra (Copper) has been known from prehistoric times and has been employed in making tools and different types of utensils, from the 12th century onwards the reference for the preparation and use of Tamra (Copper) is available. Now a days, copper is given by physicians only in bhasma (calcined) form, that too under strict medical supervision. It is indicated that the patient of Garavisha (Concoted poison) should instantaneously be given Vamana (emetic therapy) by the physician as Emesis is regarded as the best one among all the therapeutic measures for the poison taken orally. Vamana karma (emesis therapy) by Sukshma Tamra Raja (fine powder of copper sulphate) with honey is indicated in Garavisha (Concocted poison) Chikitsa (treatment), which expels the accumulated toxins. After the heart is cleansed the patient should be given one Shana of the Bhasma (fine powder) of gold to destroy all kinds of poison within the body & for the protection of Heart.
