Abstract
Lagan is one of the eye diseases described by Sushrut under Vartmavarta Vyadhi (Diseases of eyelid) which is similar to disease Chalazion mentioned in modern texts having symptoms such as foreign body sensation at affected eye, heaviness in the eyelid leading to the change of refraction. While going through ayurved texts, it was found that Triphala Guggulu is Vranaropaka (Helps in healing of wounds), Shothahara (Anti-inflammatory) & Vedanahara (Analgesic) which may be helpful in treating the Lagan. Total 75 patients (post operative Chalazion) were selected randomly & divided in 3 homogeneous groups. Each group consist of 25 patients. Trial Group A patients were treated with Triphala Guggulu & Ciprofloxacin eye drops, Group B patients were treated only with Triphala Guggulu & Group C patients were given Tab Ibuprofen & Ciprofloxacin eye drops for 7 days. At the end of the study it was found that Triphala Guggulu with Ciprofloxacin eye drops (Group A) given in combination was most effective in post operative management of Lagan than using only Triphala Guggulu. The results were similar in comparison with combination of Tab. Ibuprofen & Ciprofloxacin eye drops, but without any side effects.
